Who is Maria Montessori?

Dr Maria Montessori’s (1870-1952) philosophy is based on the theory that each child should be free to work at their own pace with the materials they have chosen.

The most important ages of learning are from birth to six. Dr Montessori focused on individualised learning to develop social, cognitive, physical, and creative skills at this most important time of the child's life.

Dr Montessori believed that children have a natural desire to learn. Here at Greenlane Montessori, we use this philosophy of education to help children develop and prepare them for the world!

Dr Montessori described a child’s mind from birth to six as “the absorbent mind”. During this stage, children have the innate ability to assimilate and learn about the world around them. Montessori educators are highly aware of this and use appropriate materials to stimulate the mind.

The Montessori method focuses on the model of self-exploration. When children work at their own pace they become more independent and motivated to learn and develop new skills, concentration and determination.

Dr. Montessori described a child’s mind between ages of birth to six as “the absorbent mind”. This is the stage where the child has without conscious effort the ability to assimilate and learn the world around him. Montessori educators are highly aware of these stages and work with these advantages through introduction of appropriate materials designed to stimulate the mind.

Our Philosophy

We encourage self-exploration for our children at Greenlane Montessori.

We work towards encouraging free choice, curiosity and excitement towards learning. Montessori methods offer appropriate learning experiences for all ages in math, language, French, culture, sensorial, science and practical life.

The Montessori philosophy aspires to develop self-confident and optimistic children instilling independence and good decision-making skills. We develop independent growth in all areas and enhance the child’s ability to listen and participate in independent and group activities. Montessori encourages growth and promotes respect for each child’s differences and its educators lead your children on the right path every day.

Our educators are highly trained and child-focused. All of our educators are qualified in a variety of diplomas and degrees, including Early Childhood Educator certification and MACTE Montessori accreditation.

Greenlane Montessori School is built on the Montessori method of education which profoundly fosters and motivates children's growth and all aspects of development through child-directed individualised learning plans.
